UFC 153 Anderson Silva vs Stephan Bonner

We all know that Anderson Silva and Stephen Bonner stepped up to save the UFC 153 event that took place October 13, 2010 in Rio De Janeiro. Originally it was suppose to be Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar - but that fight was scrapped because Aldo suffered a foot injury.

If there was one place that Stephan Bonner didn't belong, it was in the cage with Anderson Silva. It reminded me of the Sesame Street "One of these does not belong" game. Stephan Bonner didn't stand a feather in the wind chance at beating Silva. It's just one of those fights that you don't even have to watch to know the outcome. Everyone roots for the underdog sometimes and Joe Rogan tried his best to point out why Bonner could come up with an upset.

"Stephan Bonner also has a very slick ground game and if there is any area that we've seen Anderson Silva struggle in the past is with grapplers. He first fight with Chael Sonnen is an excellent example of that. The first round against Travis Lutter, the first round with Dan Henderson. Stephan Bonner his goal in this fight should be close distance get a hold of Anderson and try to make something happen on the ground."

When the match started, Bonner came out gunz a blazin' and the match immediately went to the cage. Bonner attempted a couple of take downs but Silva managed to ward them off. Bonner was clearly out matched and then something spectacular - when Bonner dis-engaged from the Silva on the Cage, Anderson stayed on the cage and invited Bonner back for some free shots. Silva with his hands down at his side impressed the crowd with his ability to slip Bonners punches - even working in some strikes himself. When play time was over, Silva performed a trip and sent Bonner staggering towards the middle of the cage. As Bonner made it to his feet Silva threw an uppercut - sending the now off balanced opponent to the opposite side of the cage. Bonner bounced of the cage and caught a knee from the champ to the solar plexus and just as fast as the fight started it ended via referee stoppage.

So whats next for Anderson Silva who stepped up in weight class to save the card. Joe Rogan asked him if he would consider fighting at 205, where a potential super-fight with Jon Jones could await him. Silva didn't entertain the idea stating that he just wanted to save the card and that he was not going to fight in the light heavy weight division.

All in all this was awesome fight and further establishes why Anderson Silva is pound for pound the best fighter in MMA History. Some of you may disagree and are entitled to do so. I still think when it comes down to it George St. Pierre is just getting back in to the game and to set up a fight between the two would be ridiculous. Pierre has stated before that over the span of being out of mma action he has lost love for the sport. It will be interesting to see how much of a come back he makes. If he was to fight Silva and loose I would ride it off as Pierre not being back to one hundred percent.

Jon Jones Bones would be the next superfight and to that I would say although Jones has run through the best in the game almost effortlessly I still consider him wet behind the ears. For some reason I do not want to see this fight happen. For me and a business perspective, why would I want to put my guys up against each other knowing these guys are my money makers. It's almost like Fedor when he was just beast and undefeated and as soon as he lost...he was no longer a big deal. That is what I see happening with Jon Jones and the other as well. Keep the fans hungry for the fights.
