Tecia Torres Destroys Felice Herrig

Invicta FC 7 winded down last night in Kansas City Missouri at the Ameristar Casino Hotel and guys - boy was this a fight to see. Check it out ... on Fri at the weigh-ins Felice Herrig and Tecia Torres both make weight at 114.5. Torres steps off the scale hits her pose and stands aside for the face-off photo. Herrig steps up makes weight and she too strikes a pose ... well actually he hit a number of poses. After being separated by Shannon Knapp - Torres turns for more pics while Herrig scatters away only to return and that;s when the fun starts. You can view below around the four minute mark.

Felice Herrig was def a class act the night before at weigh-ns, but boy was she out classed when the cage door closed on fight night. Herrig had no answer for Torres' stand up but just as predicted - would try to take the fight to the ground ... but a strappy Torres would not let that happen and would go on to force Herrig to stand and bang. If you managed to catch Torres vs VanZant or Torres vs Namajunas this fight was a reenactment of that - really one sided.Torres dominated the cage, controlled her opponent and inflicted her will. There were also some highlight reel moments when Torres executed a number of axe kicks as well as a reverse spinning high kick. Herrig escaped b
y the hair on her chinny chin chin.

Torres dominated her opponent and would go on to win via unanimous decision. When asked if Tecia was surprised by Herrigs performance - she responded by saying that she was surprised that she dominated her like she did. WOW!!!!! The crowed immediately responded causing Torres to retract her statement. Torres was right though - she made Herrig look like she never had a fight before in her life.

It's no secret that Tecia Torres has hands like no other. Based on Herrigs previous performances she was able to take her opponents down and ground and pound them for the win. her Bellator match with Heather Clark is a prime example. Herrig lost round one 29/28 and then won second round 29/28. The third round would go to Felice Herrig 29/28 - it was this ground work that Herrig was able to get in that left an ever lasting impression. Herrig has come a long way in her ground work - she loves to surf once she get on top of her opponent - always with the hooks and great body locks.

The only way Torres would lose this fight is if the fight went to the ground and Herrig was able to tire Torres out and slow her hands down on stand up. Round one the bell rang and that is exactly what Herrig tried to do. Torres had an awesome fight and is now 4 and 0 - undefeated as an ammy and as a professional womens mixed martial artist. She beat out #5 so it could mean that Torress is now #5 - well hopefully.

Torres would go on to exit the cage - but wait - whats this...who makes their way down to the cage? None other than the cookie monster Carla Esparza. Esparza is Invictas straw-weight champion and current belt holder. Esparza made her way to the cage to apologize for not being able to perform that night. Esparza was to take on Claudia Gadelha who was hospitalized the night before with a bacterial infection. It seemed that Esparza had something else up her sleeve as she not only appologized for not being able to perform that night - but to also call out Tecia Torres after her dominated performance. Torres made her way back to the cage and met Carla at the cage door. It looked as though they were in agreement to fight each other - but no further comment is known whether this is something that will happen next for Torres. Torres signed a 4 fight contract with Invicta which expired that night.

That call out from Carla Esparzas was absolute nonsense. Calderwood, who also fought on the IFC 7 card now 8 and 0, is a top contender behind Claudia Gadelha. The real question is why go over Calderwood and down the ladder to an unranked but highly talented Tecia Torres? Maybe because no one wants a piece of Calderwood. Her striking is insane, her take down defense is insane and her cage control is insane -- perhaps. There is no telling how long Gadelha will be out with her bacterial infection for who knows how long....why not fight Calderwood. Gadelha was suppose to fight Esparza a while back but Esparza backed out by way of injury, It seems there is a lot of ducking going on.

Torres also had excellent cage side coaching from Jessica Aguilar. Aguilar beat Carla Esparza back in June 2013 via Bellator. The boxing was not there and Carla would go on to lose via split decision. If Carla couldn't handle Aquilar - she can't handle Torres - as Torres also trains with Jessica Aguilar and throws more punches as well..

Torres needs to fight Gadelha and should not be allowed to slip fate. It was classless for Esparza to call out Tecia Torres who is only getting better. It only fair that fighters make their way up the ladder in an order that is respected. Calderwood has been overlooked one to many times. She is the second contender while I would put Gadelha at number one. All in all this isn't the WWF where you waltz down to the ring and start calling out people. That is so disrespectful...
