Strikeforce brings another feature card to the Scotttrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri with a Showtime televised event. The main event is a rematch ten years removed as former Pride multi-divisional champion Dan Henderson takes on former Strikeforce champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral in a pivotal light-heavyweight clash. In the co-feature Strikeforce highlight reel Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith makes his welterweight debut against Paul “Semtex” Daley.

Let’s take a look at main card and see how these five bouts may play out.

First we suffered though a sub-par kick boxing match between top notch wrestler Matt Hughes and BJJ black belt Renzo Gracie. The only thing that stopped it from going to a painful decision was the fact that Gracie was completely gassed by beginning of the third round. Hughes took advantage of the situation and mercifully finished Gracie with just 20 seconds remaining in the fight. Next came the UFC lightweight title bout between champion BJ Penn and challenger Frankie Edgar. A lethargic Penn seemed to do enough to earn a lackluster decision and retain the title but the judges saw it otherwise with Edgar taking the crown via unanimous decision. The fact that Edgar won wasn’t as shocking as the scorecard from Douglas Crosby which had it 50-45 for Edgar which was beyond ridiculous.

Cain Velasquez vs. Alistair Overeem – An all-time classic heavyweight clash between UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight kings. Both fighters have the capability of ending the fight violently and suddenly. Overeem would likely have the advantage in one shot KO power but it will be the game planning and technical approach from Velasquez that will be the difference in this heavyweight tilt. Velasquez will use his technical striking to keep Overeem off balance and if necessary Velasquez has the ability to take the fight to the mat and control Overeem as well. The thought here is that Velasquez will methodically pick apart Overeem on the feet and add some takedowns for variety before sitting down on his punches in round three and earning the TKO stoppage.
